What you need

Required

  • Your own Windows 10 (version 2004 or newer) or Windows 11 PC, 64-bit, with virtualization switched on. Not a VPS, cloud PC or virtual machine. Check your PC.
  • NinjaTrader 8, installed and started once, with a live price feed for MNQ.
  • A practice account: NinjaTrader's Sim101 (or Playback101 for Market Replay). The beta places orders only on these.

Optional

  • Telegram or Discord on your phone, for alerts, Approve on phone and Flatten & stop (free).
  • An alert service that can send webhooks, if you want your own alerts sent to Mastbound Trader (most need a paid plan for webhooks; check its terms, since some license alerts for display only).
  • No AI key or AI account: "From your recording" and "Describe my strategy" use the AI included with your subscription (Coming soon).

Windows, step by step

  1. Check your PC. Go through "Will it run on my PC?" (five minutes).
  2. Start NinjaTrader once, then close it. Setup looks for it and stops with a plain message if it isn't there.
  3. Run Setup as the Windows user who uses NinjaTrader. The installer isn't code-signed yet, so Windows will warn you; what each warning means and what to click. Before you run it, you can check the file's SHA-256 against the one on the download page and in our email.
  4. Restart once when Setup asks (about 25 minutes in). Setup switches on Windows' Linux layer (WSL2), which needs administrator rights once. After you sign in again, it finishes by itself (about 10 minutes more).
  5. Open Mastbound Trader from the desktop icon. Setup is on Home: Home, then Quick setup, then Orders: Paper orders, tick ‘I understand this places orders’, then Start my day. Quick setup checks NinjaTrader, your account and your strategy, and ticks each part off as it sees it done.
  6. Connect NinjaTrader (part of Quick setup, done once):
    1. Control Center > New > NinjaScript Editor, press F5, wait for 0 errors.
    2. New > Chart: MNQ, front month, Minute, 1. Right-click the chart > Strategies… > add OrderFileConnector, with Account = Sim101.
    3. Tick Enabled, then OK.
  7. Choose your rules and your limits. A template, your own rules in plain words, or a recording. Approve the rules card, then pick your firm's preset or type your own numbers.
  8. Start my day, in Observe first. On Home, in Quick setup, keep Orders: Observe and press Start my day. Every row turns green, and the app shows what it would do while sending nothing. When you're ready for practice orders: press Stop, then Home, then Quick setup, then Orders: Paper orders, tick I understand this places orders, then Start my day (or use Approve on phone, once it's out of testing).
  9. Optional: connect your phone. Settings > Phone alerts and Phone control: paste your own Telegram or Discord bot details and press Test.
